Life's a Beach

Hey everyone!
So today has been very busy. I just finished making an order for a bridal shower, it was beach themed! And the theme couldn't have come at a better time because the weather has been so crappy and cold lately, I needed something to remind me of warm weather.
Anyway, I had to bake up 50 chocolate cupcakes and decorate them as a beach theme. Usually I would try and design the cupcakes with a more beachy feel, as I have done in the past for birthdays, but this time the occasion was different and since it was for a bridal shower I decided to go a little more elegant with the decorations.
I swirled on vanilla butter cream frosting and then made little seashells from chocolate. I usually don't like to work with chocolate because everytime I try and make it, it hardens too quickly or doesn't melt enough. But this time I was a little more smart and saved myself the hassle and time, and bought a chocolate melter made by Wilton. And let me tell you this little gem really saved me from the hassle! I followed the directions completely when melting the chocolate then poured them into the seashell molds. After I let the chocolate harden in the fridge I took them out then took a little bit of gold pearl dust, and using a mini brush, I brushed the pearl dust all over the chocolate shells.
I then placed them onto the cupcakes and sprinkled some brown sugar and white sugar pearls all over them, making it look like shells on the beach! Here is what they looked like...

Hope you enjoyed reading, and learned a little more about how to make these little chocolate shells!

March Madness

Hello Everyone!
What a busy month it's been, that's why I'm naming my post March madness! I had the opportunity to make a casino chip themed cake for a 23rd birthday with a twist of the Jets! It came out looking great :)

A very Golden Birthday

Hello readers,
So today was a very special day because it was my boyfriend's 22nd birthday.. and since he is turning 22 on the 22nd, it will be his GOLDEN birthday! I think I was more excited than he was when I told him, nevertheless, I knew I had to make him a very special birthday cake. Since he absolutely looooves chocolate, it was easy to decide what flavor of cake to make (chocolate fudge, duh!) but I wasn't sure how I was going to decorate it.
After thinking about it long and hard, I thought it'd be great to bring back his roots, and celebrate his heritage as he turns 22. I incorporated his Jamaican culture onto it. Blake has a tattoo of the 'lion of judah' on his chest, so I thought it'd be fun to try and make a lion out of fondant! Here is the result..
Happy Birthday Blake!
my little 'lion of judah'

He loved the cake, but the only problem I had with it was that the fondant was too thin when I placed it over the cake, so there were a lot of bubbles and bumps, not as smooth as I wanted it to be. I also had a little balancing problem with the lion because it was top heavy. Next time, I think I need to use some lollipop sticks or toothpicks for extra support, in order for my fondant figure to stand up better. Other than that the cake was a hit and really fun to make!
Well that's it for today, and in light of this cake being Jamaican themed, my little quote that I will leave with you today is from Bob Marley...

{Don't worry about a thing, cause every little thing is gonna be alright.. with cupcakes!}

Will you be my valentine?

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
I don't want to sound too sappy but what a cute holiday for everyone who is in love and wants to show the world their love. I'm still not sure why there's a holiday for it (because LOVE should be celebrated everyday) but for baker's like me, this is the perfect time to bake red velvet cupcakes and garnish them with lots of little heart sprinkles.
I am a hopeless romantic, and each year, I make a batch of Blake's favorite cupcakes (chocolate fudge) and decorated them with love. This valentine's day, I took advantage of using fondant for all the love little pieces that I added for decoration. In previous years, I worked more with melted chocolate or sprinkles to create hearts etc. But since I have become more used to kneading, shaping, and creating objects with fondant, there was no question that I wouldn't use fondant on these.
I went a little crazy and made fondant hearts, kissy lips, love letters, X's & O's, mini valentine's and sprinkled conversation hearts around the plate. Blake loved them! And I was very proud of myself, check them out below and let me know what you think!
Happy Valentine's Day!

You know that saying, {A way to a man's heart, is through his stomach.} It's true. Trust me, bake up some cupcakes and surprise your sweetie, and he'll be in love forever.

Happy Birthday to.. me!

Hellooo readers!
So as you may have read from the title of this blog post, it's my birthday! This is one of my favorite days of the year because everyone gets to celebrate the fabulous day of my birth haha, just kidding (I'm really not that conceited, promise). Anyway, I am so fortunate and thankful to have people in my life who love me! I am truly blessed.
Last Friday, my housemates threw me a 22nd birthday party and invited all of my close friends to come and celebrate. But the best part about it was for the first time I had cupcakes that were baked for me! Usually, it's hard for people to get any surprises passed me, so you can guess how surprised I really was when my friend Gail pulled out Barbie themed cupcakes and got the whole party to sing 'Happy Birthday' to me, it was the best birthday I've had so far!

so surprised...
it's barbie!
Thank you to everyone for showing so much love on my birthdy, and a special thanks to my housemates :)

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

Hello readers!
This winter, we've been really lucky with the weather because it hasn't snowed since Halloween (I am certainly not complaining), but I have to admit, it just doesn't feel like winter without it!
So what did I do to get a little taste of the snow? Bake snow cupcakes, duh! I mean it's not the real thing, but I needed some form of snow in my life to make the season feel like winter.
What was also perfect about making these snow cupcakes is that my younger cousin Serina was celebrating her 12th birthday, and every year she asks her mother for a snowman shaped iced cream cake. My aunt decided to switch it up this year, and instead of getting the cake asked me to make snow themed cupcakes!
It was perfect, I would get a little dose of snow and my cousin would be able to celebrate her birthday with these cute cupcakes.
I baked up coconut cupcakes with vanilla butter cream frosting and used fondant to make the little snowmen, snow'lady', and snowflakes then sprinkled coconut flakes on top and around the cupcakes on the tray. They were a huge hit at Serina's birthday party!

& last but not least.. the birthday girl
Well that's it for now, hope you all enjoyed reading my post this week. Oh and I'm still crossing my fingers that there will be snow before winter ends haha!

{You can't always get what you want, but you can always have cupcakes!}
